Recently I toured “The Verde” model house designed by Michael Grant with Barna Log Homes in Ellijay, Georgia. I considered the experience “an adventure in good music”— similar to enjoying a performance of a Mozart piano sonata. Nature, the inspiration for this home design, carried me across the threshold. Once inside, the timeless tranquility of nature was balanced with the principles of smart design and energy conservation, addressing the immediate needs of a modern lifestyle. The clerestory lighting, high efficiency appliances, along with man–made and reclaimed materials reflected an appreciation for the natural environment and the need for convenience.
The themes of nature and energy conservation were developed throughout. The imitations of nature’s patterns were evident in the color schemes, flooring, cabinetry details, and even in the banisters of the staircase. Practicality and creativity were in perfect harmony in unexpected places, like a hand–thrown pottery sink basin in the guest bath.
The lines defining the space were as carefully crafted as any Mozart melody. Adjacent to a gracious living area was a cozy home study—private, while convenient and connected. The repetition of interesting textures and patterns created an effortless transition upstairs to a welcoming sitting area and delightful bedrooms—no dark corners or tight spaces. The space felt open and expansive. The windows allowed great lighting in and provided a reminder to reflect on the joys of living in the mountains. The outdoor living area, with detailed stack rock fireplace and a generous space for reverie, was the final cadence—a peaceful resolution for modern living. Barna Log Homes of Georgia has mastered the art of living…the experience matters!
